Career:  Welder at Southern Stainless

Tell us a little bit about yourself!


I am from Mexico and I have four kids. Two of them were born in Colorado and two were born in Virginia. I have been a welder for several years now. In my free time I enjoy target shooting and spending time with my family. Growing up I never really played sports or anything like that.


What are your current goals and why do you CrossFit?


My goals at CrossFit when I first came in was to lose some weight to feel better about myself. Now that I have gotten more time under my belt and I am more comfortable with the movements, I can see my strength improving as well as my endurance so I want to continue to improve those elements. I do CrossFit because I love the way I feel after a workout and seeing what I am able to do now versus when I first started.



What are your favorite movements? How about your least favorite? Why?


Favorite movements - For some reason I love to run, any running workout I enjoy! But I also enjoy any type of weightlifting movement and also doing box jumps. 


My least favorite movements -  Rowing! I don't know why this one always kills me in workouts. But I am getting better.



What do you think is special about CrossFit Anazao?


CrossFit Anazao is the best place ever. I love the structure of the classes, the rules, the discipline and the guidance we get from all of the coaches. The coaches encourage all of us to be the very best version of ourselves and to give the best effort that we have on that day. Every single member has been so welcoming and the best part to me is that it feels like family every time I come to workout.


Is there anything else you want to say?


I really appreciate all of the coaches that help me each day. I also am thankful that the other members build each up and motivate each other as well. To me that is what is so special, the Anazao family. I am grateful to be a part of this community.



A note from one of our coaches…


Joel has been so consistent from day one. He comes to the gym 4-5 days a week and gives it his all every single time he walks in the door. He has taken each week in stride, accepting where he is but also taking the steps to listen to the coaches to learn the mechanics to improve himself week after week. Joel is one of the first ones to help out his fellow athletes as well. And you can be sure if there is a partner workout, you will want to partner with him as he will push you to keep moving!
