Tell us a little about yourself

Oooooff…..I was born and raised in the area, but spent a lot of time in Alaska and still work there. Maybe one day it’ll be my permanent home. I have been in healthcare for a lot of years- literally longer than 1/2 the members have been alive, so there’s that. My best friend (my partner in life, love and crime) and I love the beach, fishing and camping. Sometimes we’ll even “force family fun” and take the kids along. There’s 3 of them. Offspring, that is. Ask any of them and they will assure you that Daisy is my favorite though. I could spend my days curled up with a book or true crime podcast with my puppers and be very happy. I dove into fitness back I’m 2010 when I was making some life changes. I was running 4-5x a week and doing martial arts. I did kickboxing and karate for years and have been known to coach a time or a hundred. I love martial arts, but I started crossfit in (I think) 2016 as a way to build strength and endurance before I tested for my black belt. After that I moved to CrossFit full time.

What are you current goals and why do you do CrossFit?

If you had asked me a few years ago, it would have been to hit a 250lb back squat and a 350lb deadlift. My goals these days are to not die. I want to be able to keep moving. After injuries, (because I’m stupid, not at the gym) I stopped chasing numbers, PRs and the RX button and have changed my focus on just moving. It’s been humbling and super frustrating some days, but I’m still going.

What are your favorite movements? How about your least favorite?

Favorite movements: I used to live for deadlift days, back squats, cleans and bench press. At this point I’m not sure I have a favorite. I’m appreciating every improvement from the previous workout, making small adjustments and trying to give my body some grace.

Least favorite: Least favorite is definitely wall balls. 150% wall balls. They can go to straight to hell. Doesn’t matter though, because they are on my do not attempt yet list.

What do you think is special about CrossFit Anazao?

The coaches put up with me and my general snarkiness. Most days that alone deserves an award. This is true for everyone except Coach John. He just rolls his eyes at me, but I guess that’s ok since he has to deal with me the rest of the time. Also- we have great members. I think most of us all love dogs and those are my people.

Anything else you wish to add?

I love watching other members succeed. It’s fun to see new members come in and watch their confidence grow as their form improves and weights get heavier. It’s one of my favorite things about crossfit.

A note from one of our coaches:

Sara is one of the most passionate members we have at Anazao. She cares deeply for the success of others and is one of the first ones to introduce herself to new members and lend a helping hand.  She has overcome injuries and set backs numerous times and she continues to take challenges head on with a fiery determination to not give in. That will and power that she displays is evident in her workouts and is truly an inspiration to those around her. She is also quick to listen and give advice in order to help others find success or even find a better mindset for the rest of the day. We are lucky to have her at our gym!
